The Samsung Galaxy Note is coming to the US on February 19th and the pre-orders have started today for those who are interested in getting a jump on getting the 5.3 inch combination phone and tablet. Both AT&T Wireless and Best Buy are selling the Galaxy Note and are available in White and Carbon Blue. The Galaxy Note is a unique device which is a combination of a smart phone and a small tablet which includes a stylus. At the price of $299 with a 2 year contract from AT&T, this one will be interesting to see just how well it is going to do given its size of 5.3 phablet as it is being called. We see this as being a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) that does everything that you need in a single devices.
The pre-orders are supposed to be delivered beginning on February 17th for those ordered through AT&T which is going to put it into people’s hands before it arrives in AT&T retail stores. There are a long list of accessories coming with this one as well. Even Best Buy is going to give you a free flip cover with your pre-order which is a pretty good deal.
There has been a lot of discussion about how big this hybrid phone and tablet is actually going to be for slipping in a pocket and it appears that the jury is out on that. There are a number of forums discussing just how easily it might be to slip this into your pants pocket, so we will have to wait until it is actually in people’s hands on February 19th. What is going to make this a great phone is the 1280 by 800 HD resolution on the Super AMOLED screen. At that resolution, they begin to rival the smaller laptop. The 1.5 Ghz dual core processor and the 8 megapixel camera put this out there with others on the leading edge for smart phones. It includes a 2500mAh battery which is larger than most other phones and should be able to provide an all day charge for normal usage. With these features, it makes this PDA phablet one that could make a big shift in the market for many.
It is only going to take about a month to determine whether this is going to create a new category of smart phones and tablets. It sure looks like that is going to be the case and could alter the landscape for the mobile market in the future. If this PDA device creates a new category as expected, we are going to see other combination smart phone and tablet combination this year.
