Samsung has announced their latest phone in the Galaxy S series and this one is called the Advance. The Galaxy S Advance is not going to match up to the very popular Galaxy S II in terms of features and with some of the specs, it looks like it will not be coming to the US. We are expecting to see the Galaxy S Advance appearing at the Mobile World Congress which is being held in Barcelona beginning on February 27th. This is where it is hoped that Samsung will also be revealing the Galaxy S III. The announcement of this latest Galaxy S phone is designed to meet the needs for smart phones in other parts of the world. Based on the specs that are being listed on this one, it fits in between the first Galaxy S and the Galaxy S II. Up until today, this one was a rumor with leaked information. You can check out the Philippines Hardware Zone to get some video’s on the Galaxy S Advance.
This seems to indicate that the phone has been leaked in the Philippines and much of it is found by searching on GT-I9070 instead of Galaxy S Advance. One interesting feature of the phone is that it has a slight curve to it, which is similar to that of the Galaxy Nexus which is a very popular smart phone. Based on the Galaxy S Advance, Samsung may be moving to the slightly curved shape for all their Galaxy S phones in the future. Watch for that change with coming announcements from Samsung.
The specs on the phone are less than what we have seen on the Galaxy S II. The Advance comes with a 4 inch touch screen, 480 by 800 resolution, 1 Ghz dual core processor, front (1.3 megapixel) and rear ( 5 megapixel) cameras, and will be running Android 2.3. There is no official word about whether Ice Cream Sandwich will be coming to this phone, but we can expect that it will happen. The Galaxy S Advance is going to launch next month starting in Russia. After that it will arrive in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia and China. The US was not listed in the press release.
You can read the Samsung press release here. Of interest in the press release is a new feature being included in the phone:
The GALAXY S Advance also features Find My Mobile, a unique lost-phone management system that ensures secure phone data encryption in case of phone loss, and that enables users to trace their lost phone directly via the Web or even delete the device’s data remotely.
Looks like they are adding a feature to compete against the “Find My iPhone” on the iPhone 4S. We can expect to see that on future Galaxy S phones.
