A major update to Android may show up soon for the Galaxy S3.
We are all aware of Google rolling out Android 4.1, Jelly Bean, on the Google Nexus 7 tablet which has been a big item in the news. The latest Google OS seems to show up on the latest Nexus device, which has been the pattern followed by them. So, when Jelly Bean made its way into the market, the obvious question became when can I get it? Jelly Bean runs things faster and has security enhancements which are of great benefit. Especially to a phone like the Galaxy S3. Previous reports had it arriving for the Galaxy S3 by the end of the year, but that looks like it may be changing and to our advantage.
We have already heard that the Nexus S is already getting Jelly Bean for the international version and that the Galaxy Nexus will be getting it shortly. That is not a surprise as these are the Google inspired phones which do not contain the carrier bloatware which all the other phones have. So, the question is when can we, as Galaxy S3 owners, expect to see the Jelly Bean update. Based on information from over at SamMobile.com, they have information from sources that Samsung is already testing Jelly Bean on the Galaxy S3.
And they are speculating that it could arrive in the August to September time frame as an update. Exactly how that will translate out to all the wireless carriers around the world when Samsung releases it to them is an unknown right now. We have seen the time that it takes carriers to add their pieces to the Android OS. We are very hopeful that Samsung does turn over Jelly Bean by the end of July and if so, we will be seeing it on our Galaxy S3 phones in the August to September estimated dates.
With all the talk of Android Fragmentation, we really do hope that samsung has figured out a way to fix the Android Fragmentation because of the added leverage they have with the Galaxy S3. Because they rolled the Galaxy S3 out in a 4 to 6 week window, we can hope that roll out for Jelly Bean on the Galaxy S3 will happen around the globe in a 4 to 6 week window. If they can pull that off, they will begin to put a big dent in the fragmentation problem.
We can hope to see Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S3 here in the US by the end of September.
