The Galaxy S3 is being offered for pre-order now
That sounds like wonderful news until you remember that Samsung has not even made an official announcement for the coming Galaxy S3. Still, it sounds like something that everyone should jump on. Well, maybe. This is being offered up by Mobile City Online who is located in New York City. They are showing a picture of the coming smart phone based on pictures provided by Samsung in the past since there has been no official press announcement. Sounds like there has to be a catch of some kind and you would be right in making that kind of a statement.
This is an unlocked phone which can be used on any network. As long as that network supports GSM which based on their screen shot is showing the 3G 850/1900MHz ranges which limits you to AT&T and T-Mobile. You can live with that, then the next item to look at is that this is an unlocked phone. There is no subsidy being provided by a wireless carrier and the price tag they are showing is for $799.99. Pretty steep. Then there is the fact that this is 3G and not 4G LTE which is exactly what we are expecting to see from the Samsung Galaxy S3 when it does officially arrive.
If Samsung repeats some of their past roll outs, that would mean that the UK would be getting the phone before the US and you would be getting a GSM version from the UK. You can live with that, then OK. You can pre-order it. With the lack of 4G LTE and the high unlocked price tag, the number of people who will be willing to purchase may be low, but you can bet that some will do just that so that they can have their hands on one before everyone else does. In the case of the recent Galaxy Nexus, there were a number purchased by reviewers just so that they could review the phone and tear it down. We expect to see the same thing happening with the Samsung Galaxy S3.
