In direct competition to Siri, Samsung brings smart phone to life.
With the announcement of the Galaxy S3 last week, there are a number of features being included with the phone of interest. One is the S Voice which is Samsung’s answer to Apple’s Siri. It is not a surprise that others are copying what Apple has put out mainly because of just how successful Siri has become. Wireless carriers are not thrilled by the extra bandwidth the voice communicator takes up, but some version of it will be appearing on all smart phones in the future. Samsung is providing their version with the Galaxy S3 in S Voice and it is a great version. This is no small feat if you consider everything that must be in place for this to work.
You wake up S Voice by saying “Hi Galaxy” and it comes to life. You can change the commands to start up S Voice to be anything that you want. There are other specific commands associated with it to do specific tasks for you. These may be to play some music, open an app or take a picture. You want to have S Voice write a message and send it to a list of people. S Voice can do that. You want it to browse to a web site for you. S Voice can do that. S Voice is truly your personal assistant in the Galaxy S3.
Samsung has done an excellent job of providing features to duplicate what Siri provides and throws in great voice recognition at the same time. Coming so close on the heels of Apple’s Siri is a major accomplishment. We have seen other apps which are to provide the same functionality as S Voice, but they fall short of the mark.
Since the Galaxy S3 has not been released for sale yet, the final version of S Voice could be even better than what is being seen in the demonstration phones at events. It will not be long before reviewers get their hands on the Galaxy S3 and can work with it in depth to identify all the great features and limitations of you communications assistant.
To show just how good the S Voice feature is, some have been talking about the “how much wood could a woodchuck chuck” test for the Galaxy S3. This is in order to test the features for the new voice communication and see just how well it does. Android Central did that actual test and S Voice responded extremely well to the question and we are providing that YouTube video for you to view. This shows you just how good S Voice is going to be on this coming smart phone. Just as with Siri, expect to see lots of YouTube videos of funny things which S Voice responds with.
