Samsung making claims of 10 million units by July
With not much news being reported this week regarding the Galaxy S3, it makes one wonder what is going on with the new phone from Samsung. So, Samsung is making an announcement regarding just how many phones they are going to move by the end of July. And the number is very high at 10 million units. This follows on claims that there have been over 9 million pre-orders for the Galaxy S3. And the news is coming from South Korea by the Associated Press.
If Samsung is able to exceed 10 million units by the end of July, it will be significant and will break all their previous records. They are moving closer to being a major threat to the iPhone and some are starting to talk about that, but until the numbers come out to prove the number of units which come close to Apple’s numbers, that really does not matter. But the announcement by Samsung by Samsung leaves much to be desired.
We are not getting information as to what they are basing their numbers on. While we would like to hear that the 10 million units represents actual sales to owners of the Galaxy S3. But, since Samsung is not providing details as to what this represents, it is more than likely is those which Samsung has turned over to various distribution changes. It is those distribution changes which are then providing them to retail outlets. So, numbers of those in the distribution channel versus those which have been actually been purchased could be off by several million units.
Until we start hearing numbers from wireless carriers, there is no way anyone can know the numbers which have been actually sold. Until they provide those numbers, the 10 million units into disribution channels does not mean much to the average consumers.
