Verizon and AT&T decide against offering 50 GB free Dropbox space
Some of the biggest news about the Galaxy S3 from Samsung has been the free product from Dropbox where you could get up to 50 GB of storage. This free Dropbox storage was free for a period of 2 years and saved you the $9.99 per month or $99 annual charge for that space. That was the good news. Now we are hearing that Verizon and AT&T are not participating in the 50 GB Galaxy S3 Dropbox promotion.
While Dropbox is offering a 50 GB of Dropbox storage at other US carriers selling the Galaxy S3, there is a cost to wireless carriers associated with that. And apparently, Verizon and AT&T do not want to take on that cost and you can read about it on the Dropbox support page where they are confirming that Verizon and AT&T are not participating. I was looking forward to getting the 50 GB of free space from Verizon when I get my Galaxy S3, but now I am not going to be getting the Dropbox space. The idea of free is always a great idea.
U.S. AT&T and Verizon customers
Select carriers have opted-out of the promotion on phones otherwise eligible. Unfortunately, AT&T and Verizon are among these carriers not currently participating.
Yes, I know that I can pay for it myself, but with all the new accessories I am going to have to purchase with the Galaxy S3, such as an extra battery, it would have been nice to have the storage space in the cloud. Being able to share things between my Galaxy S3 and my computer was a good idea, given that I am on the go and writing for Galaxy Insider. Guess I will have to look into purchasing the extra space since Verizon has chosen to not give it to their loyal customers. They seem to be removing the items which reward people for staying with them long term, such as the $100 off a new phone every 2 years. That has fallen by the way as well.
Too bad for Verizon customers who are purchasing the Galaxy S3 as it is one heck of a phone. This one item is not going to slow people down from trying to get this fantastic phone from Verizon or AT&T. Per-orders are going on right now at AT&T with a ship date of June 18th and at Verizon with a delivery date of July 9th. Some of these dates may change, but we know the Galaxy S3 is coming soon.
