Ice Cream Sandwich Rumor
The Galaxy S2 has been waiting for the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) ever since the Galaxy Nexus arrived with it pre-installed on the handset. It would appear that the wait is almost over if the latest rumors are considered to be accurate. This is due to a Facebook post from Samsung Israel where they are saying that the update will be arriving on March 15th. Since I cannot read the post because Chrome is not being triggered to translate it. I will have to rely on others to determine exactly what is being said, such as from Engadget who is providing a translation of the post.
“We promised that we are working about that. You have waited patiently. And it’s coming in March 15th: Android version 4, ICS, for tens of thousands of the Galaxy S2 owners that purchased it from the cellular company in Israel or directly from us. We are very excited in here towards the launch, hope that you too :)”
This comes from one of their followers and since this appears to be the official Samsung’a Mobile IL Facebook page, it would appear to be the real thing and one that can be considered a little more than a rumor for everyone. This may have been a post for Facebook which was put up too soon and can be considered as leaked information for the public so that we can all get excited about the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich for the Galaxy S2. This is wonderful news.
As is being pointed out, Israel has the international version which is the same as in Europe, so we can assume that all of Europe would be getting the ICS update at the same time. That may be limited because of the various carriers and their testing procedures as has been seen in the past. For the US version of Ice Cream Sandwich on the Galaxy S2, we expect it to be some time after that date for it to arrive. That is mainly because of just how long it takes the carriers to add everything that they feel they must to Android 4.0 before they are going to release it as an Over The Air (OTA) to owners of the Galaxy S2. That is of course after all of the testing they do which seems to take a long time.
This is some very good news and we can hope that this is a matter of weeks before there is a release here in the US for ICS on the Galaxy S2. Now, what about all the other Galaxy devices?
