While other locals are seeing Android 4.0, the US is waiting.
It seems like it has been a very long time since Ice Cream Sandwich showed up here in the US on the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Everyone who had an Android smart phone wondered if they would be able to get the latest Android OS upgraded on the phone. In January, information started leaking out as to which devices would and would not be getting updates. The wait continues for many Samsung devices here in the US while other countries are receiving the updates for devices such as the Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy Note. This is not a fun situation for many and the apparent waiting game continue here. Given the popularity of the Galaxy S2, one would think ICS would have shown up by now.
In a list being maintained by Engadget, they are showing devices which have received and are still waiting for the ICS upgrade. This list is for Canada and the US. We are showing the Samsung part of the list below. As you can see, Galaxy S II devices which are unlocked have received the update. Galaxy S II devices here in the US are still waiting for the update. There are other Samsung devices listed here as well and you can see the results. Exactly what this means is nothing. You can not infer anything from the information as to when we can expect owners of the Galaxy S II phones in the US to get an update.
And that is the frustrating part of all of this. There is little or no information being provided here as to an expected date and everything is left vague. The “Coming Soon” statements are wearing thin and there needs to be specific information coming out. With the Galaxy S3 showing up in the US in the summer, we would hope that Samsung has released the ICS update for the Galaxy S2 long before that time.
