Recent loss to Apple may cause company to use non-Android OS.
With the recent loss to Apple in August and the potential for more lawsuits for using the Android OS, Samsung needs to look at alternatives. Apple really has their sites on Google, but prefers to go after the manufacturers of smart phones. And they have been fairly successful in doing that. It would appear that Samsung needs to move away from Android. One thing they are doing is looking for a replacement for their Bada OS and it looks like they have found it in the Tizen OS in version 2.0 which is a Linux based OS. The rumors seem to be indicating that this will happen in early 2013.
The source of the most recent rumor comes from DigiTimes who has been the source of a number of different rumors. According to the report, Samsung will be releasing a Galaxy model running the Tizen OS in the near future. According to them, it already has a code name of i9300. This all looks to be real and the Tizen 2.0 SDK has now been released to developers. With the OS in the hands of developers, they can start working with it to determine things which need to be fixed before they move beyond the Alpha stage. This all looks like early 2013 is on schedule for its release.
If the Samsung rumor regarding a Tizen OS on a Galaxy phone is true, Google’s Android OS may not have a bright a future. Samsung has done much to promote and move the Android OS forward. At the moment the Tizen OS is an unproven OS for use in the marketplace. But that may be changing. We can assume that Samsung will not be rolling out a Galaxy S4 phone with the Tizen OS. They will test the waters with some new models to see just how well it does. There could be models shown in February at the Mobile World Congress to let everyone know what they are planning to do in the first half of the year.
It will be interesting to see what phones Samsung puts the Tizen OS on. This is an interesting development.
