The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has provided a long list of new products which will be coming out this year and can assist those who are truly mobile. The problems with running out of battery life on your mobile devices is a big problem and there are a lot of solutions for that. But, what happens if your are away from a power source for a few days or more. With today’s smart phones having a battery life of less than a day, that would create a big problem. And carrying an additional battery is only good for a 2nd day. What do you do then?
For those who are really mobile, the Nectar portable power device can answer your needs. And it can handle those needs for up to 2 weeks, providing charge after charge for your smart phone. This small device never gets plugged into an electrical outlet. Its power comes from something they call the “Silicon Power Cell” and it is a cartridge that you plug in. When it has been used up, you simply throw it into the recycle and plug in another one. And they are hot swappable, so that they continue to provide a charge. It is estimated that the one time usage fuel cells will run for $10.
This is an interesting device and it is currently on pre-order through Brookstone at a cost of $299.99 with an expected shipping date in July this year. That is a pretty expensive device for use to charge up your mobile devices for up to 2 weeks. This is best suited to those who are hiking for an extended period of time away from electricity.
For the rest of us, carrying a 2nd battery is a more cost effective method of extending our mobile devices for more than a day. We are always around some sort of power source when traveling. Given that this is being sold through Brookstone, it will appeal to a ver select group of people.
