With the competition between Samsung and Apple, we expect to hear of products ahead of their release. And at CES 2014, Samsung has announced 12.2 inch tablets which are impressive. With rumors of a larger iPad this year and if true, would mean that Samsung has shown up Apple by getting their announcement out there. The tablet announcements of two larger size tablets tends to put added pressure on Apple to deliver. And the tablets from Samsung are impressive.
Samsung is going to be delivering two 12.2 inch tablets, one called the Galaxy NotePro and the other called the Galaxy TabPro. Essentially, they are the same except that the Galaxy TabPro will not have an S Pen and the associated features. You will be getting a resolution of 2560 by 1600 pixels which will provide for excellent visual effects. Driving this great resolution is a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset which will be available for those Galaxy NotePro (or TabPro) offering 4G LTE. For those offering 3G, you will see the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa chipset.
Samsung has already set up information promoting the Galaxy NotePro and it is impressive. And while pricing for the larger size tablets is spurring guesses, one might wonder why a tablet this large is going to make a different. The obvious answer to that is with respect to watching video content. Smaller size screens do not lend themselves to watching by more than 1 person. This larger size will provide for group viewing.
But, there is another value associated with a 12.l2 inch tablet. This is appealing to business users. The screen size is moving into the smaller laptops which many business travelers use. So, the Galaxy NotePro, when coupled with a Bluetooth 4.0 keyboard, offers a much lighter replacement to that group. We all know that desktop computer sales are trending downward and with this size, it may well add to that trend. I see the NotePro 12.2 as a replacement for the laptop that I am typing this on. What do you think?
