Rumors have gone wild for the coming Galaxy S3
Samsung and Apple have been fighting with each other over patent infringements all over the world. This is at the same time Samsung has been supplying Apple with components for their mobile devices. This has created a very strange relationship between the two. During this time, Samsung has taken some time to learn abut how Apple does things and one of those is the ability Apple has for keeping new products secret and not releasing information. When Apple has done this, such as with the iPhone, the rumor mill goes wild and speculation about what the device will be has ideas all over the place. Samsung has been doing the same thing for the coming Galaxy S3 and reports of what it will be have a lot of variations.
Samsung has learned the value of not confirming rumors, even if they are true, because the result is a growing rumor mill which continues to promote their product. As an example, there is a rumor that the Next Galaxy is going to be the official phone for the London Olympics and Samsung is not commenting about this. As a result, it feeds the press cycles and gets even more coverage. The May 3rd Press Event in London talks about the “Next Galaxy” and does not specifically mention this to be the Galaxy S3. And of course they have learned from Apple to not comment on these rumors. There is much speculation that this will be the Galaxy S3, but that is rumor and speculation, not confirmed fact.
There have been reports of pictures of the Next Galaxy and though not very clear, they are obviously in phone cases to disguise their true identity. Apple has been doing this for years and Samsung has learned to do this to keep their coming product a secret. It would appear that Samsung is doing most of this because they are competing on the same level which Apple does and thus requires them to keep things secret as long as they possibly can to protect their products and future sales. This effort cost them time and money to keep things secret which is one that is not to be taken lightly. By taking this effort, they have risen to the same level as Apple in efforts to protect their products.
We do not know whether the Next Galaxy is the Galaxy S3. If we assume that it is the Galaxy S3, then everything that it contains is assumptions with a lot of educated guesses as to the contents. We expect to see on going rumors right up until the May 3rd announcement because of the level of secrecy which Samsung is employing. As a result, Samung must deliver an outstanding device to make up for all the secrecy.
