The Super Bowl was a great time and the Giants won in a cliff hanger. Along with the exciting game were all the ads which were put out at great expense and had many watching them. One of interest was the latest ad from Samsung where they are showing people in line waiting for the iPhone to come out and then they show the Galaxy Note. This is a good ad to show Samsung devices which are available and you do not have to wait in long lines to get one. They used locations in Denver, Colorado, Boston, Massachusetts and San Francisco, California with people standing in line for what one can assume is the iPhone. Then someone spots the Galaxy Note with its stylus and in comes the flask mob with music.
This is their way to launch their latest phone in the US with a huge audience and the Galaxy Note may need that kind of visibility to be successful because of its size. At 5.3 inches, it is a very large phone and a very small tablet which is exactly how they are marketing this. They have assigned the label of phablet, though we believe that Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) is more appropriate. Given the size and all that it can do, it is more of a PDA taking one back to the days of Palm. This gives you a device with high resolution to do what you need without having to carry around 2 separate devices which has been the trend in recent years.
Whether this one is going to make it big in the US is unknown because it does not look like something which can be easily slipped into your pocket because it is size. Including a stylus in a smart phone is going to be a much harder sell for some, but it does look like Samsung is going to carve out a market niche on this one. The question is just how big that niche is going to end up being. Time will tell.
