Trademarking names could mean future devices from Samsung
Often when you see a company trademarking a name, you could assume that a new device could be coming. In the case of Samsung, there are reports they are adding three new names to the list of those which they want to protect for future us in the US. This involves them filing requests with the US Patent and Trademark Office. They have done that this week in an effort to protect the names Galaxy Next, Galaxy Grand and Galaxy Premier. Since these are start with Galaxy, we can assume that they are more than likely for coming smart phones.
The Galaxy Next is already on Facebook and looks like it has been there since February. This is a low end phone from Samsung and one that is on the market in other countries. This is not the first time we have reported on something likes this and earlier in the month there were a variety of names being trademarked by Samsung. It sure looks like they are trying to lock in names for future devices and we know there are rumors of some coming, such as the Galaxy S3.
Since the Galaxy Next is already being used on a low end phone, we can speculate on the two remaining names. Given the names, these could easily be associated with high end devices which might arrive this year. The Galaxy Grand sounds like a great name for a device that is a cut above all the rest and could easily be tied to the coming Galaxy S3. I would like to see that kind of a name tied to it. The other of Galaxy Premier sounds like it is associated with royalty or a movie premier, either of which could be associated with a really great phone.
We do not know when these names are going to be used and whether they will be associated with a phone being sold int he US. We can hope they are used here as the names create some characteristics when associated with a Galaxy smartphone.
