Upcoming quarterly reports are expected to show expanding lead.
With the release of the Samsung Galaxy S3 in May, analysts are expecting Samsung to report some great news with their quarterly reporting. The next report is due out July 27th which is a week from Friday. Given all the pent up demand for the Galaxy S3 here in the US and the fact that it came out very late in the process, sales in the 3rd quarter are going to be even greater than what is expected to be revealed next week by Samsung. At this point, analysts have participated in a poll conducted by IDC to gather estimates of what is going to be reported.
The poll of 41 financial analysts provides insight into expectations for the coming quarter report from Samsung. Of those polled, they expect to see an increase in the gap between smart phones produced by Samsung and Apple. In general numbers, the indications are for Samsung to report 50 million in smart phone sales for the 2nd quarter. Apple is expected to report 30.5 million. And that is not including a full quarter of sales for the Galaxy S3 either.
The numbers expand the gap between the two from those in the 1st quarter. There, Samsung reported sales of 41 million and Apple reported 37 million. The gap from the 1st to the 2nd quarter increase as estimated is rather significant. And it is the increase in the gap estimated by the poll which should have everyone over at Apple as being concerned for the future. And these are smart phone numbers only and do not include all the other cell phones which Samsung sells around the world.
The inventory issues with Samsung appear to continue as they struggle with inventory for the Galaxy S3 and support the notion they are going to be reporting some great sales. But it is the inventory issues which should be corrected by the end of the month which provide the most hope for Samsung to further expand their lead. Apple is going to be coming out with the next iteration of the iPhone, but that one is probably not going to make before October. With that, we can expect Samsung to further expand the gap between themselves and Apple in the smart phone market.
Expect the numbers for Samsung in the 3rd quarter to grow substantially.
