Event invites for May 3rd in London could be the Galaxy S3.
We have been waiting for May 22nd to hear about the next Galaxy S from Samsung, though that date was only a rumor. Today, Samsung has been sending out invites to people for a “Press Event” on May 3rd in London. The logical conclusion for this is that Samsung is now ready to formally announce the Galaxy S3. Or at least that is the conclusion that everyone is making this morning. It seems the “Next Galaxy” has been deemed to represent the much anticipated Galaxy S3, the successor to the very popular Galaxy S2. The Galaxy S2 has been a highly successful mobile device for Samsung.
For Samsung, they have been acting more like Apple in just how quiet they have been on this next phone from them. The rumor mill has been working overtime with various items to be included, such as wireless charging of the battery or a dual boot option for ICS. It seems that the rumor mill has been putting out some great items, though as expected, some are not going to be included in the smart phone simply because they are rumors. We do expect to see a quad core process with the LTE chip embedded in the processor for better performance and less battery drain.
The LTE phone should come with Ice Cream Sandwich installed, but with all the problems with getting ICS to the Galaxy S2, there is no guarantee that Samsung will have it pre-installed on delivery. From a marketing perspective, that would be a very big mistake for them, so we do expect it to be included. Screen sizes have varied in the rumors, but we expected to see a 4.6 inch screen along with a ceramic back to the phone. All of this to be included in a form factor that is expected to be very thin.
There are so many other mobile devices which Samsung has waiting in the wings for arrival, such as the Galaxy Note 10.1. This announcement could be for one of those devices and not the expected Galaxy S3. With the timing on this, the only conclusion we can make is that Samsung will be making an announcement for the Galaxy S3. The only item in question is what they might actually be calling the “Next Galaxy” from Samsung. In unusual fashion, Samsung has been more secretive on the coming smart phone. Last week, I reported on rumored wireless carrier testing. There have been rumors of a missing home button and then a visible home as things lead up to the announcement.
We can expect to see a few more rumors coming out between now and May 3rd to tempt all those who are waiting for the arrival of the successor to the Galaxy S2. Maybe the best rumors will be around exactly what Samsung is going to be calling this “Next Galaxy” device.
