Wait for Galaxy S3 is close to being over with pre-order announcement.
The wait for the Galaxy S3 is very close to being over with the announcement today of pre-orders for the phone starting at Verizon on June 6th. These will be starting at 7:00 AM EDT which will be 4:00 AM for us on the West Coast and worth getting up early for if you are a Verizon customer. Given that Verizon has the largest 4G LTE coverage in the US, they are your best bet to get a phone which can take advantage of all the capabilities on the Galaxy S3. An exact date for the arrival of the phone has not been stated, but based on what we are reading this morning, June 21st would be a very good bet as to the launch date at Verizon Wireless.
It appears that Samsung is launching the Galaxy S3 at 5 wireless carriers in the US, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and US Cellular. This looks to be an organized effort by Samsung to continue with the global roll out of the Galaxy S3 and is very effective marketing on their part. Pricing for the Galaxy S3 will start at $199.99 for the the 16 GB model with $249.99 for the 32 GB and is exactly what we expected to see on a new 2 year contract with Verizon. Other wireless carriers will be charging the same amount to stay competitive. Exactly what other versions will be offered is unknown as there is an expected 64 GB versions outside the US currently. Whether it make it to the US is something which will be known as we approach the release date.
In previous guesses for the launch, we were looking at June 20th for the start of sales and the June 21st date is 1 day after Canada will be selling the Galaxy S3. While Verizon has not specifically stated the date they are going to be selling the Galaxy S3, we can assume it is the same as T-Mobile which is being widely reported as June 21st.
We are now going to be hearing much more about the specific details of the Galaxy S3, one of which is the dual core processor. The international version has a quad core processor, but does not have 4G LTE included. Only the dual core processor has 4G LTE embedded in the processor for greatly improved battery life. And on a 4G LTE phone of any kind, battery life is probably the biggest negative which everyone is talking about. This one item is going to see a lot of talk about the coming Galaxy S3 to the US. Performance is always a big discussion item here, so this one will not be any different.
