Backup of pre-order shipments may be cause of new delay at Verizon.
With overwhelming pre-order sales, Verizon has had to yet again delay the release of Samsung’s flagship phone, the Galaxy S3. It seems that delays in North America have become a problem for many carriers, with Verizon still not releasing the Galaxy S3 for general sale more than a month after it was released by Samsung in London. All of North America was delayed to late June for some wireless carriers and much later for others. Now, we are seeing a delay in the arrival until July 12th at Verizon, but no official comment from the carrier. This is posted on their web site in plain view for all to see.
Given all the apparent confusion with getting pre-orders out, Verizon may be working towards making sure that they are all shipped before they put the Galaxy S3 on sale to the public. There are varying comments and complaints on various forums about when people are going to be receiving their new Galaxy S3 from Verizon. It seems there is no order in how things are being shipped out, but there are some comments about 32 GB shortages from people and that may explain some of the problems. I am seeing many people reporting they have either received the Galaxy S3 or gotten a shipping email from Verizon who ordered their phones between June 15 and June 21. I ordered a 32 GB Galaxy S3 on June 13th and am still waiting for the arrival from Verizon. Others who ordered after that date have received their phones.
It does seem that Verizon is struggling to get the phones shipped out before it goes on sale or face the wrath of customers who pre-ordered. I received an email yesterday evening that it had been shipped, but at that time, it was still sitting on their dock as FedEx does not pick up on Sunday. As of this morning, it has been picked up and is set for 2 day delivery. All of this points out the need for Verizon to delay the release of the Galaxy S3. There is probably inventory issues as well, which will allow for Verizon to get additional Galaxy S3 phones in the 2 day delay.
It is starting to look like the Galaxy S3 is going to be breaking more sales records this month here in the US.
