Ship by dates delayed to July 10th from July 9th
If you are pre-ordering your Galaxy S3 from Verizon today, you will notice that shipment dates have moved from July 9th to Ju1y 10th for ship by. When I ordered mine, it was interesting to note that Verizon would be shipping my Galaxy S3 by the same day that it goes on sale in Verizon Wireless stores. Other wireless carriers have been saying they would be shipping before the Galaxy S3 goes on sale so that it arrives at people’s homes before retail customers could get their hands on them. Verizon has made no official statements on this change and raises the question of what is going on. There are two possible reasons, one good and one bad.
The Good – Verizon could be selling so many pre-order Galaxy S3’s that they are not able to process them in a timely manner. We know that the phones have not arrived at Verizon since they have a delayed start of July 9th, So they are not going to be able to process the large volume of orders to get them all out on or before July 9th. Based on that assumption, any orders continuing to come in would have to be delayed by at least a day to allow for the additional time to prepare them individually and then ship them. That only makes sense. Also, because of the back cover problems which resulted in delays in Europe, there may not be enough inventory to meet the initial demand.
The Bad – Verizon is experiencing delays in getting inventory from Samsung and cannot meet demand. This could well be due to rumors and speculation about just how well the Galaxy S3 is going in pre-order sales. The back cover defects which caused delays last month are impacting Verizon as well. While Verizon has not officially commented on the delayed ship date, they may be delaying the official launch of the Galaxy S3 by at least 1 day and possibly more. Given just how popular pre-order sales are, this would not be good.
Another possibility for all of this is the plan changes for June 28th at Verizon where most are changing. For those who have unlimited data plans and want to keep them, you have to order the phone before June 28th in order to keep your unlimited data. The only way to do that is with a pre-order of the Galaxy S3. While that is a likely possibility, Verizon may be seeing large pre-orders because people like the data plans they already have.
Whatever the reason for the 1 day delay, there is going to be a lot of speculation because of Verizon’s silence.
